The name Dayak is used for the languages of the Dayak people who speaks languages of Borneo separately from varieties of Malay and language of Chinese, Indian, and European origin. They belong to two dissimilar branches of the Austronesian language family according to recent (2008) classifications, the various groups of Bornean and Sabahan languages (including Land Dayak), and the Ibanic languages of the Malayic branch, distinguished as Malayan Dayak (Sea Dayak). The Ethnic language expert Dedi Ary Aspar in Pontianak says the 26 endangered languages are located in West Kalimantan and are all sub-branches of the main Dayak language. None of the above languages has more than 100,000 speakers.
