Pahlavi language/ Pehlevi language is the part Indo-European family of languages and a subfamily of Indo-Iranian. It has the characteristics of a distinct language, but is not one. Pahlavi is the form of the Persian language that followed Old Persian and preceded Modern Persian. It is also called Middle Persian, it was used during the Sassanid, or Sassanian, rule of Persia (3d to 7th cent. A.D.) . It is defined as a system of writing applied to a specific language group, but with significant features alien to that language group.
