Sango or Sangho is spoken mainly in the Central African Republic. There number of speakers are Sango in Chad and Congo-Kinshassa. It had approximately 1,600,000 to 5,000,000 second-language speakers as of the early 1970s, but only about 404,000 native speakers, mainly in the towns. It is also spoken as a trade language in southern Chad. There are about 400,000 native speakers and appox 5 million second language speakers. Sango is a Ngbandi-based Croele language with French influences, though it is made up of Sango grammar and vocabulary, with many French loanwords. Sango is used as a lingua franca all through the Central African Republic which is the language of instruction in some schools, and there are regular radio and TV broadcasts in Sango.
